According to W-D Academy’s Mark Lamoreaux, one of the team assistant coaches, the squad has attended the tournament for the past six years, but this is the first time the team has taken home the win.

“We are currently ranked 13th in New York state in the small school division,” he said. “This was the first time we have beaten Jamesville-Dewitt/ Christian Brothers Academy. They are generally a large school power in the state. Several wrestlers were unbeaten on the day for our team: Nate Merwin at 113, Cody Merwin at 120, Caleb Robinson at 126, Chandler Merwin at 132 and Kaiden Vernold at 182. Several wrestlers ended the day with one loss: Noah Sovovool at 99, Nick Lamoreaux at 138, Tracer Howland at 145, Kolby Polomcean at 182 and Kalieb Stanton at 195.

The match of the day took place at 132 pounds during the dual vs. JD/CBA. It was between Chandler Merwin of WDA vs. Tyler Kellison JD. Both wrestlers were state place winners last year. Chandler was second in the small school championships and Kellison was third in the large school championships. The match ended in regulation time tied 7-7. Chandler took down Kellison in the first sudden death period to win 9-7.
