Order Trees and Shrubs from DEC

The New York Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has, at its Saratoga Springs nursery, more than 50 species of trees and shrubs which can be ordered for planting. Spruces, pines, shrub willows, dogwood, high bush cranberry, winged sumac, white cedar and wetland rose are among the native varieties available for purchase.

The nursery offers mixed packets of seeds, including flowering species that attract pollinators and reduce the active introduction of invasive plant species. Orders are being accepted through mid-May, and can be made by calling 518-587-1120 between 8 a.m.-4 p.m. This is the recommended way to order, as operators have the latest availability information.

The nursery also offers free tree seedlings for planting through the DEC School Seedling program. This program will provide 50 seedlings or mixed packets of 30 wildlife shrubs to any public or private school in the state. Order forms are available on the seedling program webpage, or by contacting the nursery at 518-581-1439.
