Cod’s Corner

By Tom Coddington

You will only see basketball in this week’s Sports Slates column, because that all is happening. Both wrestling and indoor track and field have no action because they are both practicing for their state championships on Feb. 23 and 24, and the bowling finishes this weekend with the state tourney for both girls and boys.

The basketball leagues’ championships were not all scheduled on the same week, as the Tri-Valley League games were held this past Saturday at SUNY Oneonta, while the Midstate Athletic Conference and the Delaware League are both playing on Friday, Feb. 16, the MAC at SUNY Binghamton and the DL at SUNY Delhi.

Down in Section IX, there are no playoffs in the Orange County Interscholastic Athletic Association for Class D schools, but they will compete in sectional games if they qualify. Roscoe’s longtime coach, Fred Ahart, stated that both his team and Livingston Manor will be qualified.

In Section IV, the boys’ tournaments will start on Tuesday, Feb. 20, and the girls’ sectionals will begin on Wednesday, Feb. 21. In Section IX Class D, the sectionals begin on Monday, Feb. 26 for boys and girls, and the championship games will be on Wednesday, Feb. 28 at SUNY Sullivan.
