Athlete of the Week

Kayla Campbell Kayla Campbell This week’s Athlete of the Week has good roots in basketball. Last year, we chose two standout eighth grade girls who merited it. This week, we stay at Franklin, to select Kayla Campbell, who probably has scored more points this season, at least in Class D, than any other player.

“Kayla is averaging 21 points per game, eight rebounds per game, five steals per game and four assists per game,” remarked her coach, Mike Dutcher. “As you can see by her stats, Kayla is an all around exceptional player. Just being an eighth grader makes it even more impressive. Kayla is humble, a great teammate, and is very coachable. Kayla has a high basketball IQ and plays at a high level every game.”

The roots noted here is that her father, Matt Campbell started his high school play at Franklin, and then moved to Maryland, where he starred at the higher high school level, and also had a successful college career. Matt is now coaching the Franklin boys’ team.
