SIDNEY – A new planning board chairman, Raymond Baker, was appointed at the Sidney town board meeting on Thursday, Feb. 8.

In other business, the town board approved software purchases of up to $11,000 for the Code Enforcement Officer. The money to cover this expense was set aside in last year’s budget.

Also approved at the meeting were general highway claims and hospital bill payments in the amount of $134,431.94.

This month’s meeting also featured a report from the dog control officer. Calls were placed on Jan. 14 and 18 about a white pit bull eating a deer carcass near New York Interstate 88, exit 11 - Unadilla/Franklin. There was no update on the whereabouts of the dog.

Section IV Athletic requested a lease renewal for 2018 on the space which was approved by the town board.

The last piece of new business that was discussed was a phone account for the New York State Division of Veterans’ Affairs Sidney office. The board found Vonage to be the most cost effective plan and approved a $67.10 month-tomonth contract.

The next Sidney town board meeting will be held on Thursday, March 8 at the Sidney Civic Center, 21 Liberty Street.
