Ron Galley/The Reporter A Sunday ziti luncheon to support the Walton Education Foundation (WEF), sponsored by the Lions Club of Walton was held at Danny’s Restaurant Sunday, Feb. 11. Owners Wilma Hannan, Leo Hannon and Cortnie Russell provided the venue and the food. In addition to Lions Club members, volunteers included members of the Walton Honor Society and the Wild and Wooly 4-H club along with leaders Pam and Greg Graupman. Also pitching in were members of WEF.

The plan for the fundraiser came from the Lions Club and Hannan.

WEF President Wendy Reid Jackson who helped coordinate the benefit, called the day “A tremendous success,” reporting 148 people were served and $1,421 was raised; $654.21 in donations were received from the community as well. She added the foundation’s goal to increase awareness of WEF as well as to raise money to support programs such as Girls on the Run and summer camperships for the YMCA day camp program.

The next big fundraiser will be the fourth annual Walton Education 5-K fun run and walk, in the spring.
