God Has Plans for You

By Pastor William Wright

This certainly has been long winter in upstate New York. We have had our share of snow, ice and bitter cold. It has been wintery weather since before it was officially winter on Dec. 21.

A little while ago it was bitter cold for at least week or two - it seemed much longer. As that cold progresses it seems to get into your bones. I know for me the older I get the less I like the cold. Those dark and cold and snowy days can be quite gloomy for the spirit. During this time, we can become a bit depressed.

However, as we all know the word that brings us through is spring. The thought of spring itself can lift us just a bit. It is a refreshing thing. Spring is our hope in a dreary season.

For one thing we know as we grow older spring always comes. We have our seasons in upstate New York - summer, fall, winter and spring. This is our hope as we endure the months of winter.

So it is with our lives. We enjoy the happy moments of our families and children. But the storms eventually will come to us.

We need the hope and comfort that is found in our God. Sometimes the Creator seems so far away but he is still with us every moment of our lives and eternally. In Romans it says: Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.

He does hear prayers and he understands more than we know. He will lift us up and he will give us peace within ourselves. And he will bring spring to our lives as it says in Jeremiah:

For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Someone once said God doesn’t always calm the storm, He calms the sailor. He will calm you with his peace, joy and most of all, hope.

Hopefully when he brings spring to you then you will give that hope to others. Nobody is more capable of giving assistance than one who has been through troubles. Your gift of spring to all you meet is the best way to spread his love. By being that beacon to all of our friends and neighbors you spread the Love of Christ. That love is a wonderful light that can illumine the dark world. May the light of Christ shine through each one of us.

Rev. William Wright is Pastor of Christ Church, Walton.
