Featured speaker, Courtney Valles, assistant counsel in the Office of the General Counsel at the New York State Workers’ Compensation Board, highlighted private and public employers responsibilities as they relate to the law which went into effect on Jan. 1, 2018.

Most private employers with one or more employees are required to obtain Paid Family Leave insurance, which is generally added to an existing disability insurance policy. Self-insureds can purchase a separate policy or apply to the NYS Workers’ Compensation Board to self-insure.
