Car Seat Event at Sidney McDonald’s

On Oct. 14, Delaware County Public Health and the Village of Sidney Police will hold a free car seat safety event at McDonald’s in Sidney, 141 Delaware Ave., from 9 a.m.-noon. Three out of four car seats are not used or installed correctly. Child safety seats used correctly can reduce the risk of death by as much as 71 percent.

Parents and caregivers can have their child’s car seat checked at no cost by certified child safety seat technicians. This free event will educate parents and caregivers on proper car seat installation and use. Car seats which do not meet the Federal Motor Safety Standard may be replaced.

Bring your child/children to the event. Expectant parents are welcome as well. According to the Center for Disease Control, motor vehicle injuries are the leading cause of death among children under the age of 13 in the U.S., but many of these deaths can be prevented. Placing children in age- and size-appropriate car seats and booster seats reduces serious and fatal injuries by more than half.

Funding for this program is made possible by the Governor’s Traffic Safety Committee and the National Highway Safety Administration.
