Chenango Lake Perch Derby Scheduled for Feb. 4

OXFORD — The Oxford Lions Club will hold its annual Chenango Lake Perch Derby on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 7 a.m.- 2 p.m. NBT Bank of Norwich is sponsoring the grand prize money, $1,000, and there will be guaranteed grand prize.

Every 15 minutes, a prize will be awarded for the largest perch caught in the time period. The winners of those prizes will be entered into the drawing for $1,000. To win, one must be a registered angler. Registration is $5 on the ice the day of the derby, and it begins at 6 a.m.

The Oxford Lions will have hot food and drinks available on the ice during the event. Jared Bartle, who is chairing the event, stated, “We didn’t get to hold the derby last year due to lack of ice. This year, the ice looks promising, and we are hoping for a great turnout. This is an event for the whole family to enjoy.”

He added that the proceeds from the derby will be used to fund the many community projects that the club supports, such as the recent Jim Podraza Holiday Dinner, which provided meals for more than 2,000 people.

There also will be a large raffle, held in conjunction with the derby, and all raffle prizes are at least $100 in value, and tickets are on sale now, from any member of the club. The tickets will also be sold on the ice.
