Well, the pro football season has concluded, but we still wish that they would switch the dates of the all-star game and the championship, so that players on the top two teams who earned all-star status could also play in that game. Maybe they deserve a break, but if they are among the best players in the league, let the fans see them for one more week.

This week, we are concluding our series of photos of area fall teams who earned Scholar/Athlete recognition from the New York State Public High School Athletic Association (NYSPHSAA). We stretched it out to seven weeks because so many teams qualified with averages of 90 or better, and we had 25 of the 32 photos we could have had. We had another that the school thought had made it, but it was not on the state list and the team’s average was never released.

In another six or seven weeks, we will be starting the photo series for those teams that earned the honors in the winter season, when there are fewer teams. It is hoped that more schools will be represented on the state list, but one has never participated in the program, another seldom does, and in some cases, contact is not regular from some athletic directors who do have qualifying teams.
