Howard Anderson

Howard A. Anderson, 80, a lifelong resident of Walton and Hancock, passed away on Tuesday evening, Sept. 18, 2012, at home, following a long illness.

Howard was born on March 28, 1932 in Pompey, the son of the late Hiram and Elsie Kenney Anderson.

Howard proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Howard was employed as a sawyer for Mallory Lumber Company in Hancock. In his spare time he enjoyed dancing, hunting and fishing, and spending time with his family, especially playing cards with the kids. He also enjoyed watching television, NASCAR races and western country movies in black and white. One of Howard’s favorite pastimes was working on the truck of his close friends, Frank and Mary Eggleston.

Howard is survived by his loving family, his children, Rodney and Laurie Anderson and Bonnie Mason, all of Walton, and Tammy Stanton and Sherry Mallery, both of Florida; his grandchildren, Thomas, Christina, Kimberly, Albert, Michael, Jessica, Brittany, James, Jeremy and Marc; his great-grandchildren, Bianca, Hayden, Elsie, Toby, Harley, Brendan and April; his brothers, Ralph Anderson of Johnson City and Andy Anderson of Illinois; two sisters, Mabel and Edith; the mother of his children, Shirley Wright; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by a brother, Joseph Anderson, and a sister, Evelyn Miller.

Friends and relatives were invited to call on Monday, Sept. 24, 2012, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Courtney Funeral Home, 25 Townsend St., Walton. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
